Bill Adams' note on moving buildings is very apt. We've found in both
archaeological and historic architectural projects that farm buildings in
particular were moved often. We've also found newspaper references to
"raising" barns, that is, moving an existing timber-framed barn onto a new
masonry basement (Lapeer Co., MI, ca. 1890).

We've also found log cabins that had been moved twice. Timber-framed farm
buildings and log cabins are actually fairly easy to dismantle and
relocate. There are several businesses in Michigan today that buy old
barns and will re-erect them on your site.
