It depends on how absolutely accurate you want to be.  If you don't mind
the very slight inaccuracy that it introduces, simply photocopy a ruler.
You can black out alternate 1cm sections, should you want to.  You can
cut out a section of the needed length and paste it onto a piece of
card, should you want to cut down on the light coming through the back.
It also makes it look neater.
