In the garden of the Northern Horticultural Society in Harrogate, North Yorkshire UK
there is a large Photinia Davidiana shrub ( about 2m ( 7ft) tall by about the same
across). This afternoon it was covered with nectar feeders of all types; honey bees,
bumble bees, hover flies, butterflies etc. On the ground under the bush was a
significant number of dead bumble bees ( about 24 or more), but none of the other
species.
Is this plant species a threat to bees, or just to bumble bees?
