There is a nice article in the February-March issue of the International
Journal of Childbirth Education, Vol. 11, no. 1, pp. 19-21. It is by
Deborah Boehle, IBCLC, and is titled, "Promoting, Protecting and Supporting
Breastfeeding." It might be a help for Diane Weissinger to take along to
her talk for the nurse who arranged sponsorship by an ABM company without
informing her fully beforehand. I hope that lots of childbirth educators
read this article and think about it. It emphasizes why literature and
sponsorship from ABM companies has no place in breastfeeding teaching.
Another suggestion: If you decide to go ahead with your talk, insist that
the sponsors may not quote from or use your talk in any way without your
permission. Don't let them use your name as if you endorse the materials
they put out about breastfeeding.
