I enjoyed Ruth Wilson's post on this. But I REALLY perked when I
read her last comment. I was interested in Ruth's interpretation
that discussing possible food allergies in the baby sends the mom
on a guilt trip. Is this generally true in the American culture?
I am interested since I find that moms I counsel (in Israel)
almost always seem to feel *better* about themselves when I make
the point that a baby is an individual, with his own strengths,
problems, preferences, allergies, etc. and that bfing is a
dynamic process involving BABY, not just her (as some automatic
milk-producer). I find cultural differences so fascinating! If
there really is a difference between Americans and Israelis, is
it because the latter are much less aware of lactation basics? Or
something more insidious - that American women more guilt-prone?
