Subject: WPA/CCC/Thanks for the reminder

    Thanks to Mike Jacobs-----

Mike has rightly pointed out that the WPA was a more far reaching
organization than the CCC. He's also mentioned the Writer's Project.
There was also a companion project which involved artists. Some of the
works of these artists hang in US Post Offices around the country (at
least thats where I've seen them so identified). Much of this art work
contains representations of everyday life in the 20's and 30's, as well
as documenting the construction of projects involving the WPA. (For
example, the high school I attended in Virginia was built by the WPA).
Some of the art was actually photography, and I believe a number of
famous photographers participated at one time or another.

Since this is not "real" archaeology I won't elaborate further.
It's useful, however, to remember some of these massive undertakings
since they affected historical archaeology in a number of ways. They
also affected the fabric of American culture.
