While I agree that the tunnel and its immediate politics are not
appropriate points of discussion for HISTARCH, this diversion has
been an interesting and stimulating reminder of the fact that
archaeology is not without its political dimensions wherever and
whenever it is practiced. Sometimes the repurcussions are more
audible than others, but the "past in the present" is always
something worthy of discussion among archaeologists.
