While we're on the topic of protrayals of BF in media, I wanted to share my
experience of having lunch with an author who does portray BF positively.
McMurtry's books include "The Last Picture Show", "Terms of Endearment" and
"Lonesome Dove". I told him that one of the things I liked about his books
was that "he wrote about breastfeeding as though it were actually a normal
part of life". He gave me a little smile that let me know he understood
exactly what I meant by that. We went on to talk about toddler nursing (also
portrayed in a couple of his books) and he volunteered the information that
Cybill Shepard (a good friend of his) nursed her twins until they were over
2. His partner who was there asked if I could recommend a good LC for her
sister who was pregnant and lived in another city which, of course, I was
delighted to do.
Oh, yeah, we talked about books, too.
