I'm looking for references to articles, chapters, books, monographs,
or even "procedures manuals" that describe preferred practices to
archaeological survey.
I'm interested in the latest "state-of-the-art" descriptions of the
entire process from developing the research design to preparing the
report, including background research (literature, archival, and
informant interviews), field survey (both reconnaissance and
intensive), site survey (detailed survey and subsurface testing of an
individual site), sampling strategies, site recordation and mapping,
use of non-invasive and other advanced technologies (such as GPS and
GIS), laboratory analysis and curation, and what should go in the
report.
I am familiar with Martha Joukowsky's "Complete Manual of Field
Archaeology," but would like to know what else is out there and
considered good. It may be best to respond off-list, but if there is
interest, I'd be willing to share a list of the sources received.
Thanks for your help!
