I hate to open up a can of worms here, but I have been pondering and
writing about the subject of decorative arts and, more specifically (or
more generally) thinking about an adequate definition for this sort of
amorphous catch-all term.
 
Can anyone out there offer a pretty decent, comprehensive definition of
"decorative arts?"
