Hello all,
I'm involved in a project which requires analysis of material from a
early 19th century U.S. arsenal on the Georgia-Carolina border. We have
a lot of creamware & pearlware apparently linked to an officer's
quarters. While aware of classics such as Noel Hume's 1970 A Guide...
and Cynthia Price's 1979 "19th Century Ceramics", we have also seen
Miller's 1991 piece on economic scaling of English ceramics. I'm
wondering if there are any additional sources available on the
relationship between such wares and socio-economic status.
We are also interested any sources of information on the composition of
the army during the 19th century and style of life of military officers
(and other ranks) during this period, particularly support personnel,
such as the ordnance service.
