Bob,
I found a 1990 book by Paul E. Hoffman, A NEW ANDALUCIA AND A WAY TO THE
ORIENT: THE AMERICAN SOUTHEAST DURING THE SIXTEENTH CENTURY (Baton Rouge:
Louisiana State University Press, 1990).
Part One deals with Ayllon in three chapters, in which his voyages of
discovery and exploration are discussed, and his founding of the colony of San
Miguel de Gualdape at Sapelo Sound. Hoffman has done a lot of research in the
primary sources, and this is an excellent work as a result.
