i am currently researching the fishing industry in new york city in the late
18th and 19th centuries. i am specifically interested in the development of
deep sea commerical fishing - when cod became king. my archaeological
research suggests this is sometime around the 1830s/1840s, but my historical
research has not gotten me very far.

Are there any good source materials/resources? - i am heading to the south
st. seaport library this afternoon.
