In a message dated 96-07-31 08:31:01 EDT, you write:

<< I would appreciate receiving a description of the typical
atlatl, including measurements of the three wooden
components (the thrower, the rod, and the spear with head)
that could be used to construct one that appears and
functions as an original? If so, would you please send them
           to me at

Since no one seems to be in a mood to respond to this I can give you some
limited information. There was a publication which was published some years
ago (and still is available I believe) from Ballena Press. It is entitled
"Great Basin Atlatl Studies" by T. R. Hester, M.P. Mildner and L. Spencer.
it is Balena Press Publications in Archaeology, Ethnology and History No. 2
(1974). It has four articles covering a variety of aspects of atlatls.
