CALENDAR ITEM FOR l996
Civil War in the Southwest March 9 & 10, 1996; Picacho Peak State Park Cost:
$3 per
vehicle ll:00am-4:00pm Location: South of Phoenix, Arizona on Interstate10
(exit 219). Arizona State Parks sponsors many re-enactments of history
throughout its 27 park system. This event will be a re-enactment of three
different Civil War battles which were in Arizona and the lifestyles of the
soldiers in the desert during the 1860s. Re-enactors will encamp at Picacho
Peak State Park and the activities will be enthusiastically portrayed by
professional re-enactors from around the country on both days of this event.
Spectators are welcome to tour the recreated military camps which will
include demonstrations such as laundering, candle making, sewing, cooking
and the fashions of the era. The Battle of Picacho Pass, Battle of Valverde,
and Battle of Glorieta Pass will be scheduled throughout the weekend. This
is a family oriented event and will have handicap access. For more
