How about the works of K. N. Chaudhuri such as:

Chaudhuri, K. N.
Trade and civilization in the Indian Ocean : an economic history
from the rise of Islam to 1750 / K.N. Chaudhuri.
Cambridge [Cambridgeshire] ; New York : Cambridge University Press,
         1985.

Chaudhuri, K. N.
The trading world of Asia and the English East India Company,
         1660-1760 / K. N. Chaudhuri.
Cambridge ?Eng.? ; New York : Cambridge University Press, 1978.

In terms of actual site reports, take a look at the British Institute of
South Asian Studies annual journal SOUTH ASIAN STUDIES. One of the various
British Institutes also worked on some trading ports in Oman, and various
issues of the journal IRAN contain reports on the work done at Siraf during
the 1970s.
