Hello All!

I am presently working on a late nineteenth century/early twentieth
century tile manufacturing site, and would like to know if anybody knows
any *detailed* descriptions of fire box construction. Although the site
has been bulldozed nearly beyond recognition by a zealous landowner (he
never could get a crop of corn out, heh heh), I have identified four
remnant walls exterior to a fragment of a round down draft kiln. The
walls are only one brick thick, and were originally covered by a flat
layer of brick. A 23 cm layer of ash lies in between the walls, and at
the base is a coarse sandy layer. I have several descriptions of kilns
but no detailed plans of the fire boxes. I would greatly appreciate any
references anyone might have.

TIA
