Subject: omnisicent software
The query from Lynne Lewis about software was frightening indeed. There is
no such thing as a software package that will satisfy everyone's needs at
the user level. We should have learned that.

First, thanks to S. Snow for her thoughts/info. Second - I am not looking
for "omniscient" software. The software (of whatever stripe) is being
purchased whether we like it or not, and we'll be expected to use it. In
all likelihood this means that we'll be running dual data management
programs - one we already use and one that the org. wants us to use. I was
just hoping for some feedback on what to expect/how bad is this going to be!
On the bright side - at least the collections people have acknowledged that
the archaeology collections are a legit. part of the total collection. In
previous incarnations, the collections mgr. has acquired software that
precluded use by archaeologists.
