Wow!. Some nice stuff on colono from Carl Steen. I am trying to
find--not very successfully--a clip of a text Theresa Singleton sent
me a few years ago. It's another precious insight into this debate.
The jist was this: It's a former-slave narrative of an
African-American man recalling how he made earthen pots and fired
them in the hearth of his log cabin. Pretty cut and dried. Until you
realize that the cabin was in Oklahoma (Indian Territory) and the man
recalled that he made pots the way he had been taught by his wife's
relatives. His wife was Creek!
I love it.
