Hi Susan,
I second Karen's suggestion re the short frenulum. On digital exam can she
keep tongue over lower gum line? Most docs will not admit that a short
tongue/short frenulum will be a problem. One of our neos here says that if
the baby can bottle feed there is never a reason to clip the frenulum - bf
isn't that important. (But she'll do a circumcision in a heartbeat). Sigh.
If there is a short fren. & the doc doesn't want to clip it because it "isn't
a problem" you might mention orthodontic probs. later on - tongue tends to
spread in the mouth pushing the teeth out of alignment; also more difficult
to clean the back of the upper teeth, or for that matter, lick an ice cream
cone. Or french kiss.
If the fren. is normal & the tongue just short, I guess you just have to wait
for nature and growth to take over.....
