Barb Mead, Asst State Archaeologist, her boss, John Halsey, and/or Dean
Anderson, Historical Archaeologist, can be reached by phone at 517
373-6358. The state site files surely contain some info on CCC Camps. At
least one has recently been forwarded for inclusion in the National
Register (one of the Upper Peninsula camps, Camp Gibbs in Iron County,
administered by Ottawa National Forest, I believe). We did minimal
recording of the Round Lake CCC Camp in Mackinac County in the late 70's as
part of a highway ROW survey for US-2. There is a CCC museum at Camp
Grayling, administered by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.
Halsey's office, or the related historic sites people also in the Bureau of
History, can probably provide substantial information.
Good luck. Pat Martin
