Sorry for duplication, cross posted in a couple of lists.
FROM U.V. SAMBHU PRASAD
I am a post-doc in Centre for Ecological Sciences, Indian
Institute of Science, Bangalore, India, working on ecological
history. In course of my work, I came across a significant number
of wooden structures that can be dated by normal historical and
archaeological means. I want to use them for reconstructing past
climate (specially) rainfall. Most of the structures are range
from 700 B.P to present.
We in India do not have enough facilities to do the necessary lab
work. I am interested in collaborating with some one in the
developed world to do this. Once some body is interested, we can
work out the modalities of data sharing, authorship etc. I would
be able to provide them with samples etc.
The region under consideration is on the eastern coast of Indian
peninsula in South India. The rainfall is mostly in September,
October and November and is a result of retreating Monsoons,
mostly cyclonic. The vegetation type is dry deciduous to moist
deciduous. Most of the wood samples belong to teak or mango
trees. The samples are mostly derived from old structures.
I am interested in using tree ring growth etc. to understand the
impact of the little ice age on rainfall regimes in India.
I would aprichiate very much to get in touch with people
interested in collaborating, or working in similar areas. Please
feel free to write to me at my Email address or to the bulletin
board.
Thanking you,
