Thanks very much for your interesting addition to the data base. One
thing I think may be true is that, as a rule, the "before the hearth"
root cellars tend to be square, while the "along the wall" jobs are
always long and narrow. That, along with placement and a few other
things suggest that they are rather different things, even when found
in the same house (as often is the case in Va.  Thanks again,
