Intern Position Description
 
Title: Goodwin Gold Mine Intern (Historical Research)
 
Location: Lake Anna State Park, Spotsylvania, VA
 
Purpose: To develop through research a historical and operational
assessment of abandoned gold mine site, Goodwin Gold Mine, in the
park. To recommend future interpretive opportunities including
signage, displays and hands-on activities to broaden public
awareness of the gold mine industry in Virginia.
 
Activities: 1) Compile a historical background to include land
ownership and years of operation. 2) Develop site plan analysis to
determine the operation layaout and identify equipment and its
purpose. 3) Conduct an archaeological survey to assess the
condition of archaeological resources and to recover information for
future interpretive use.
