There is currently a difference of opinion among the members of Alabama's
Archaeological Council. The members cannot agree on whether or not historic
cemeteries are archaeological sites. Up until this point, some survey
archaeologists have recorded them as sites, but the keeper of the site files has
not been giving them site numbers. Other survey archaeologists have not even
been recording them. I think the current situation might be a product of
prehistory bias; On the other hand, many of my colleagues think this is
lunacy.! So, in an attempt to assess my sanity, I was wondering what the
policies were in other states?
