To Dan Foountain:
I can't remember if anything came of it, but John Milner
associates (Alexandria office) were attempting parasite analysis on at
least one privy (hmm, make that "on samples from at least one privy") from
a site in Cumberland, Maryland. It was not an African-American site, and
while Cumberland is south of the Mason-Dixon line, you may not want to
count it as "Southern". I have a copy of the report at work if you're
interested in a citation, oryou may try contacting.......

Dana didn't do the parasite analysis, but she was heavily involved
in the project and should be able to give you the relevant details. If
memory serves correctly, the privy was early-mid 19th century.
