Hi all!
I enjoy this list very much. I am an amature at all this but it is a fasination
and a hobby of mine. I have a question I'd like to ask you experts about 2
mounds of rocks I found on my property.
I have just move into my home a few weeks ago. Our house is on 4 acres of land.
2 are sort of cleared lawn and the other 2 is dense woods. I was exploring the
dense woods over the weekend and came across 2 mounds of rocks. They caught my
eye because I don't think they were nature made. The rocks were all about the
same size, more or less. One mound was about 5 feet long and 2-3 feet wide.
Some of the rocks were just scattered on the ground around the mound, probably
rolled off the top or sides at some point..i guess. I dug around the edges
of the mound into the soil and the rocks were down underneath the soil as well,
maybe covered up over years of leaves falling and rotting on them. The second
mound was about 12 feet away and smaller but also rectangular in shape. The
large mound even had a tree coming up through one end which I think might have
pushed some of the rocks to the ground. It seems the rocks were there before
the tree was. Any clues as to what they might be. I am located in Massachusetts
and I know that our property was once a part of an old farm. Infact we have two
old stone walls that wind there way through our land. Could it be that a
farmer was tilling the soil at one time and was just piling up those rock
mounds just to get them out of the way? That is what I thought at first but the
rocks really are all very similar. Any guesses anyone??
Thanks for your help!
Jean
