Dan Mouer states that he recalls an instance of an African American man
making colonoware in Oklahoma. This sounds something like the tale of Albert
Carolina, on the Waccamaw Neck (Myrtle Beach area) in SC. An incomplete WPA
slave narrative tells of Albert's father and mother (who was a Native
American) making clay pots when he was a child (which would have been
1860's). Unfortunately the description of the process was cut from the
publication! This is the only documentary evidence I have seen of an Af-Am
person making colonoware. I'll post more tidbits later---Carl Steen
