The Center for Spanish Colonial Archaeology invites one and all to the
Presidio of San Diego's 227th birthday fiesta! It takes place in Presidio
Park this Saturday (July 13th) from 11am-4pm. [Yes, I realize that this is
short notice, but I just got back online after a long struggle...]
The fiesta features a reenactment of the 1769 founding ceremony, tours of
the excavations (both in English and Spanish), demonstrations and stories
from a Kumeyaay elder, Spanish and Mexican dance troupes, and living history
demonstrations of blacksmithing, and adobe brickmaking. The Soldados of the
Presidio of Santa Barbara will have an encampment, and the Center will
demonstrate the use of our adobe estufa (stove) and horno (oven).
I hope to see you there!
