At this point, it might be worth reviewing Greg Smith's work on
colonoware from Puerto Real on Hispaniola; was his M.A. thesis but its now
out in the Puerto Real volume; some of the materials from Puerto Real show
remnant attribute from Taino Indian pottery, but most appear to be new
forms, appearing in the early 16th century; but it is a good
cross-cultural reference on mixed populations and pottery traditions.
