OUTREACH FOR JOBS ON THE MARK TWAIN NATIONAL FOREST

We are looking for self-starting, hard working people who would like to gain
valuable archaeological survey experience with the US Forest Service in the
Ozarks of southern Missouri. This is a region with a rich and varied
archaeological record, ranging from small prehistoric hunter-gatherer
campsites to massive 19th century industrialized mining complexes. Not only
could you gain valuable work experience, but you could enjoy the varied
natural pleasures that the Ozarks have to offer, such as caves, hiking
trails, boating, fishing, and some of the best floating streams in the
country. The Mark Twain National Forest is planning on hiring nine
temporary employees to conduct archaeological surveys during the 1995 summer
season. We would like to hire three,three-person crews, each consisting of
one GS-5 crew leader (S9.30 per hour) and two GS-4 crew members (S8.31 per
hour). These crews will be based out of Fredericktown in the northeastern
Ozarks (1.5 hours from St. Louis), at Salem, in the central Ozarks (30 min
from Rolla), and at Ava, in the southwestern Ozarks (1 hour from Springfield
or Branson). Qualifications for a GS-5 position are 120 semester hours
above high school in archaeology (or related field) or one year of
specialized work experience in archaeology, while the qualifications for the
GS-4 are 60 semester hours above high school or six months of specialized
work experience in archaeology. A combination of education and work
    experience may be qualifiying.

If you would like to receive the vacancy announcement for these jobs or want
additional information please contact Acting Forest Archaeologist James
Wettstaed (314-438-7324) or Resources Staff Officer Kris England
    (314-364-4621) by April 14, 1995.
