SUMMER STUDENT POSITIONS
MISSOURI DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION (MoDOT)
CULTURAL RESOURCES UNIT
Archaeological Field Technicians, Historian, Archaeological Laboratory
Technician
Several full-time, temporary positions will be available this summer with the
Missouri Department of Transportation's Cultural Resources Unit. The
employment period will be from May through August, 1997. The positions require
completion of at least one year of college with course work in history,
architectural history, or anthropology/archaeology or related disciplines.
Also, all candidates must intend to return to school in the fall.
Archaeological Field Technicians (6 positions): Duties will be focused on
archaeological field work and will include background research, Phase I, Phase
II, and Phase III cultural resources investigations, preparation and analysis
of artifacts, and preparation of material needed for the evaluation of historic
structures.
Historian (1 position): Duties will consist of conducting historical research
using primary and secondary sources; writing general historical background
studies for transportation project areas; providing detailed historical
background studies for specific historic sites and structures, and preparing
other materials needed for the evaluation of historic structures.
Archaeological Laboratory Technician (1 position): Duties will include the
cleaning and analysis of materials from current archaeological projects and the
preparation of older collections for curation.
The Cultural Resources Unit of MoDOT is based in Jefferson City, the state's
capital. Frequent travel, using state-owned vehicles, within the state of
Missouri from Jefferson City is required. Employees will need to have
sufficient funds to cover travel expenses (meals and lodging) until they are
reimbursed around the middle of the following month. Wages will vary from
$6.30 to $9.30 hourly, based on education and experience.

location near you.
