Hi. I'm not sure what "social zooarch" is though I like the name.
Whatever, you might want to check the article by Barbara Ruff and me on
faunal analysis, ethnicity, and assimilation by Jewish entrepreneurs in
Washington, Arkansas, in the 1830s-50s. The article is in Historical
Archy, 1989, 23(2):96-112. Yes, they ate pork, but on the other hand,
Reform Judaism had its major push from people on the frontier a long way
from strong Jewish communities.
