Mark Mehrer:

Mark Esarey discusses kehole and rectangular cellars underneath house (log &
other) foundations of early-to-mid 19th century near Belleville, Illinois.
Some of the complicated structures you describe might be addressed in his
study.

Esarey, Mark E., An Archaeological, Geographical, and Historical Comparison
of Eleven Nineteenth-Century Archaeological Sites Near Belleville, Illinois,
M.A. Thesis, Illinois State University, 1982.

I would be interested in knowing more about your ceramic assemblage from the
1830's cabin. What ware and decorative types are present? What stage of
analysis are you in regarding the ceramics? Have you calculated minimum
vessels and reconstructed matching sherds enough to determine patterns?
