I don't know about "hot topics," but if you're still interested in crafts
and early industries of all kinds in historical archaeology, you might
want to try the following:
1994 Morand, Lynn L.
Craft Industries at Fort Michilimackinac, 1715-1781. Archaeological
Completion Report Series, Number 15. Mackinac State Historic Parks,
Mackinac Island, MI.
In addition to a brief chapter on leather and textiles, Morand also
discusses iron, copper and brass, bone, stone, wood, and other items in
relation to craft industries on this site. Hope it's helpful.
