CO2 has also a chilling component to it. CO2 can cause narcosis
which can alter the personality of bumble bees and honey bees. They will
reject their young, and Liz day mentioned loss of memory. But I give them
a quick blast of CO2, but oxygen is always present in the container, so
the bee quickly recovers. When you want to handle your bee for an
extended period of time light CO2 anesthesia is a less stressful method
then repeately cooling bees. It is important that oxygen is always
present. With some of my experiments, the metabolic rate of the animals
must be normal, however the animal must be inactive for examination.
I must be off to class..I'll be in touch.
