   While aware of his work, I did not know Dr. Southwick personally.
I did however know some of his beekeeping students, and he was a gifted
teacher, appreciated and respected.
 
    I know of one who had little interest in bees, who simply took the course
because it sounded neat, (and perhaps to fulfill a requirement) She got
really charged up, and last I knew, was still keeping bees.
 
    Those of us who are beneficiaries of the information age, owe him a great
debt of gratitude, for he was one of the pioneers in bringing computor
technology into this ancient craft.
 
    He will be sadly missed.
