I think that Randy nailed it here.  Every case is necessarily different.  

Some differ from the imagined mean to a greater extent, and some to a lesser extent, but any study is only illustrative.

Every study is merely a snapshot of some unique population at some unique place and some  unique time under hopefully representative conditions.

Of course the wisest researchers know and freely  admit that. They try to choose typical cases, but weather, chance, luck,disease, nature, cheating, and undergrads -- plus random error and the misapplication of statistifcal analysis conspire against them.
