anthropogenic = manmade. the reference is to a manmade hive. speaking of feral hives, I was given a section of willow with a bee's nest in it. I don't think it weighed much over 100 pounds. unfortunately the bees resented being moved across town and absconded. but I still have the extended phenotype, a rotten willow log.
