It's pretty well established at this point, that insulating colonies and
the practice of the "condensing hive" has
energetic,/thermoregulatory benefits to bees in cold climates. In winter,
and in my observation, outside of winter as well. If done properly (big
caveat).
I'd be curious to learn more about the merits and/or controversies of
engineering calculations in this referenced research paper.
