Bear in mind that I am using single brood with fully open mesh floors year round; the floors are mounted on 2.5" square timbers front and back.
> when I have the slide out pulled out for summer ventilation will the increase light level under the lower brood box deter the queen from laying there?
No - and I do not use slides.
>does the increased ventilation also deter the queen from laying?
No.
>I am thinking the addition of a slatted rack would help reduce the light penetration to the brood area.
More work, more expense - I keep things simple.
Best wishes
