Reduced virulence of mites has nothing to do with hb stock; rather it is an adaptation on the part of the mites.

The principle of the null hypothesis is that there is no correlation unless proven by the one making the claim of correlation. 

Occam’s Razor favors the simpler explanation: mite virulence reflects changes in the mites, not the bees.
