stickies were tested *before* the experiment, or only after.  Maybe I
missed it.

The book itself references a series of studies completed by Dr. R.M.
Goodwin et al. in the early/mid 90's. It appears the study we are looking
for is:

American foulbrood disease part III: Spread - published in the journal New
Zealand Beekeeper in 1993
