> the "quagmire" statement is a fair and accurate description of beekeeping today.

Well, I know of several successful large beekeeping operations in my neck of the woods, and they don't appear to be suffering from anything other than the effects of hard work.

But I think the problem here is that people are misusing the term. A quagmire is when you get your truck stuck in the middle of a muddy orchard, too far from a decent road to get winched out.

The point about old technology is simply lost on me. Is my writing somehow in a quagmire because I am using the ancient Roman alphabet? For that matter, the very concept is from the alphabetic writing system used to write the Greek language, since the 8th century BC.
