The value of discouraging 'replying' with snippets of previous articles becomes obvious when we observe that very often these replies are only loosely or associatively related to the post referenced.
Regardless of intent and depth of thought or lack of it behind these 'replies', they are often construed as argument or rebuttal by the previous writer, and can cause offense when they would simply be interesting perspectives when they stand alone. After all, everyone is entitled to an opinion and variety is the spice of life.
Often as not, 'replies' just consist of ideas triggered by the original post, hastily written based on an accidental (or intentional) incomplete understanding of the previous article.
