Casual observations here now into our seventh winter in the high desert in the Rockies. Almost by chance (did not get around to drilling auger holes in boxes the first winter) we have settled on running colonies really tight with only ventilation from a very small bottom entrance. The theory is in this drier environment moisture is a limited resource to conserve. It seems to work, no controls for comparison. Have watched for signs of excessive condensation on lids and walls in our colonies and those of a few hobbyists we try to help. I remember only a couple of instances of some mold on lids and top frames. If I remember correctly it happened in colonies with a lot of space, stores and relatively low populations.
