The EPA registration document for Miticur indicating use to control varroa and tracheal mites is dated 1992, several years after the publication of the Vandenberg and Shimanuki cage tests. The company submitting the application would have had to document effectiveness against tracheal mites for that use to be listed on the label. The strip may deliver Amitraz to workers externally and that amount of product may impact mature female mites questing on the exterior of workers seeking to move into the spiracle of a young bee. It may not need to be present inside the tracheae to stop infestations.
