"Is this just and exercise in trading sugar for another sugar?"

I can buy a brand new car for under $20,000 or for over a half a million $.  Both will get me to downtown Cleveland which is about 35 miles away in exactly the same amount of time.  Yet there is a market for both hunks of metal and plastic which make up almost all the weight you buy.  Obviously with sugar more than simply calories are important in the buying decision and with cars more than will it get me to my destination is important in the buying decisions.
