Remember, I don’t need 100% to survive the winter, say I need 5 out of a bank of 10 where 8 of those survived. They will ensure I can replace any failed queens (overwinter), and do 3 early splits at 88% success rate. Doing nothing here (early spring) is where many of us lose colonies because queens are just not available or will get damaged when flown north of 60...and then still need to be replaced. Any extras can be given away for a favour in return.
