A couple of my core values are independence and freedom/adventure. So attempting to get government sponsored funding has its challenges/red tape and frustrations. I even rejected funding for my Apimondia trip (attend/present), because of some illogical requirements.
Most of my hive monitoring gear (sensors, microscopy, centrifuge/lab gear) were self funded through my bee education fees. This year I am putting together a series of bee talks focused on Subarctic Beekeeping that I am offering for free with the option of supporting me via a funding platform (was recommended by another beekeeper). So far my Zoom and Broodminder subscriptions are covered. My commitment to the Yukon, NWT and Alaskan beekeeping communities is to share the good and the bad. I hate asking for money, but like Allen mentioned many in the beekeeping community are more than happy to contribute.
